02Why survey first
An evidence-based baseline before anything is done
Native and pest animal surveys are often the first and most critical step in understanding whether a management issue exists and, if so, its scale, drivers and potential impacts.
We undertake structured surveys to establish an evidence-based baseline, so decisions are informed before any management action is considered or carried out.
Our surveys identify the presence, distribution and activity levels of species, and how they interact with land use, production systems and environmental values. That shows whether intervention is needed and, if it is, lets the management plan be proportionate, targeted and effective.

Survey outputs can be tailored to suit informal internal assessments or formal documentation.
They support landholder decision-making, operational planning, compliance requirements, funding applications and the development of defensible management programs.
